Island runner smashes own benchmark at iconic London Marathon

Athlete Christa Cain has broken her own Isle of Man women's marathon record during this year's London Marathon.

The local endurance competitor was the fastest Manx finisher at the race on Sunday (27 April) in a new record time of two hours, 37 minutes and 25 seconds.

That's nearly two minutes quicker than the previous national women's marathon benchmark of two hours, 39 minutes and ten seconds set at the Valencia Marathon in Spain in December 2024.

That previous time late last year had been 26 seconds quicker than the record before that set by Brenda Walker all the way back in 1993.

Meanwhile, Cain was one of a huge contingent of Island participants in this year's London Marathon with two others managing to cross the line in under three hours.

Ryan Teare was the second-quickest Isle of Man runner in two hours, 42 minutes and 42 seconds whilst Eamon Farrell was third of the Island athletes in two hours, 50 minutes and 28 seconds.
