Athlete sets new 10km road race benchmark in London
Another Island athletics record has been scooped up by endurance athlete Christa Cain.
The local competitor set a new benchmark in the 10km road race for the women's 35 age group of 36 minutes 15 seconds during the Victoria Park 10km event in London on Sunday (2 February).
It eclipses the previous record in that category of 37 minutes 57 seconds set by Sarah Webster back in 2017.
What's more, Cain's performance meant she won the Women's V35 category and was the second fastest female overall.
She was only bested by Gemma Kirsey to the top spot in the women's race (34 minutes 49 seconds) whilst Sophie Anderson completed the top three in third (37 minutes 55 seconds).
Cain's partner and Isle of Man Veteran Athletes Club (IOMVAC) member Simon Scott was also involved in the meeting and won the Men's V55 age group with a time of 42 minutes 43 seconds which was also a personal best over that distance.
For Cain it's a positive start to the year after a memorable 2024 in which she broke the Manx women's marathon record in December and claimed victories in the Syd Quirk Half Marathon, Chester Half Marathon and Western 10k.
