Woman who 'hurled abuse' at police told behaviour is 'unacceptable'

21-year-old admitted being drunk and disorderly near Villa Marina

A Douglas woman who ‘hurled abuse at police’ after asking them for help has been told her behaviour was ‘unacceptable’.

Chantelle Patricia May Taggart, of Anagh Coar Road, admitted being drunk and disorderly - in the early hours of 17 February last year - during an appearance at Douglas Courthouse.

The 21-year-old interrupted officers as they were dealing with a man on the pavement outside the Villa Marina at 2:15am.

She’d been screaming for help from a car, which had pulled up next to them, demanding they remove an unconscious woman from the vehicle.

Taggart told them: “This is your fault – she’s been asking for help for years.”

The prosecutor described her behaviour as a ‘torrent of abuse’.

Her advocate told the court his client was frustrated and upset by the situation and felt her friend had been failed in the past adding: "Miss Taggart accepts her behaviour was not of assistance."

Imposing a 12-month conditional discharge Deputy High Bailiff Rachael Braidwood said Taggart was 'hindering' police in their job adding: “This is, clearly, absolutely unacceptable behaviour.”

She also ordered her to pay £125 in prosecution costs.
