Winter closure of Market Square for pedestrianisation is 'illogical'

Former MHK for Castletown says there's no demand for the scheme in the colder months

A notice has been published asking residents in Castletown if they would like to see Market Square closed year round. 

Currently, the commissioners have closed the square for the summer season, and it will reopen at the end of the month. 

Former board member and Castletown MHK Tony Brown says the decision to close the square in winter is 'illogical' because there isn't the 'demand' for the space.

Mr Brown believes the square should work for the benefit of both the retailers and residents:

Castletown Commissioners has been offered the opportunity to comment.

People wanting to have their say on the Market Square closure have until 18 October, and should hand their responses to the Highway Services Regulations Team.
