Weather warning upgraded for floods and coastal overtopping

Waves and debris expected around time of high tide

A yellow weather warning for coastal overtopping and inner harbour flooding has been upgraded to amber.

It's in place from 11:15am today (Wednesday 21 August) until 4pm tomorrow (Thursday 22 August).

The Ronaldsway Met Office expects large spring tides coupled with strong to gale force southerly winds to bring a significant amount of waves and debris onto exposed coastal areas.

This, especially in the hours around the upcoming high tides - at 1:15pm Wednesday and 1:40am and 2pm Thursday.

The areas most likely to be affected are northern and central parts of Douglas promenade, Castletown promenade, Shore Road Rushen, as well as Laxey and Ramsey promenades.

Meanwhile flooding is expected at the same times around the tongue and parts of lake road in Douglas, as well as parts of North Quay.

In Ramsey the area's most at risk are Mezeron Corner and West Quay. Castletown is also at risk, with the met office saying flood defences should be deployed.
