The message is signed by a 'Joan C Hudson' who is not employed in any capacity at the Authority
The Island's financial regulator is warning of a fraudulent invoice circulation which claims to be from the regulator itself.
The message carries the Financial Services Authority’s logo, and contact details, prompting recipients to pay funds to the authority for 'notarisation of agreement'.
The payment was to be made in United States Dollars to a collection account in the United Kingdom.
The message is signed by a 'Joan C Hudson', purportedly on behalf of the authority, and it sends people to a cloned version of the FSA website.
The Authority wishes to draw attention to the following observations:
- Joan C Hudson is not employed in any capacity at the Authority.
- The fraudulent invoice contains a false Authority telephone number (+44 20 3819 0165), a false email address (info@fsa-iom.uk) and a false website address (www.fsa-iom.uk), which has been cloned from the Authority’s genuine website.
The authority says steps have been taken to take that website down, but they are concerned that those who have accessed it could become the victim of fraud or identity theft.
It is urging anyone who has had dealings with the website to contact the police.
