
Cabinet Office minister admits it's a topic which polarises views
Unease among Tynwald members over the pace of government's climate change strategy has led to tougher emissions targets.
A motion laid before members by Cabinet Office Minister Kate Lord- Brennan, seeking to reduce emissions by 45 per cent of the 2018 baseline by 2035, drew criticism for its 'lack of ambition.'
An amendment from Douglas East MHK Joney Faragher - demanding a 45 per cent reduction by 2030 - was rejected in favour of a middle ground option from Health Minister Lawrie Hooper.
He asked for appropriate interim emissions reduction targets to be achieved by 2030.
Mr Hooper's amendment was supported by Ms Lord-Brennan who admits climate change is a topic which polarises views:
