Permission being sought to expand hardstanding area
Permission is being sought to expand the winners' enclosure at the TT Grandstand.
The Department for Enterprise wants to create additional hardstanding, at the Glencrutchery Road site in Douglas, to enhance ‘the quality of the space’.
During TT and Manx Grand Prix the area to the west of the main building is used by the top three riders for post-race celebrations and media duties.
Outside of these times it’s a pedestrian thoroughfare and not used for ‘any other particular purposes’.
At present, the winners' enclosure is part hardstanding and part grass with a kerbstone running through the centre – the grass is used by spectators who watch the proceedings.
Government says the area currently presents health and safety risks as the kerb is a ‘trip hazard’ and in wet conditions the grass becomes slippery and muddy.
By resurfacing the area to hardstanding it claims it would create a ‘more easily usable and functional space’.
The application is currently under consideration – you can find out more HERE.
