Getting rid of the Legislative Council would force members of the House of Keys to take scrutiny more seriously.
That's the belief of Rushen MHK Phil Gawne who is seeking leave to introduce a bill to abolish Legco today. [TUES]
He says attempts to get the people of the Isle of Man behind the idea of popularly electing MLCs have failed, and now is the right time to ask - do we really need them?
Mr Gawne says it's not democratic at all to have a wing of parliament who are just there to revise legislation and make unpopular decisions.
He thinks removing Legco would ultimately serve the Island better.
