Teen's family could see Island community come together for Manx 'DIY SOS'

Plans underway to transform 'BallaLockie' for 19-year-old

The Manx community is being urged to come together ‘DIY SOS’ style to help a teenager who sustained severe head injuries in a car crash last year.

The family of Lockie Kirk are looking for assistance to renovate their home – dubbed ‘BallaLockie - so that it can accommodate the 19-year-old’s needs when he is able to return to the Island.

He was airlifted to Aintree Hospital for treatment after the incident near Peel in January 2022 - he's currently undergoing treatment at a rehab unit in Liverpool.

In August the family were able to bring Lockie home to celebrate his birthday for the first time since the accident.

According to his father, Daniel, Lockie is doing really well.

"He's doing great, they're pleased with his progress." - Daniel Kirk

A meeting had been scheduled to take place tomorrow (Friday) so that various tradespeople, and willing volunteers, could meet to discuss ideas for the property but it's been postponed after the family said initial plans had been 'knocked back'.

"He's excited. When he phones me up he tells me 'Can you show me how the extension's going'" - Daniel Kirk

Daniel told Manx Radio the family has been inundated with messages from individuals and businesses wanting to help:
