Teen fined after nightclub attack

18-year-old had made 'homophobic and derogatory' beforehand

A Douglas teenager has been fined £500 after attacking a man outside a nightclub in the early hours of the morning.

Makenzie Anthony Corkill, of Springfield Avenue, made ‘homophobic and derogatory slurs’ towards him inside The Outback on 17 March.

The 18-year-old then threw him to the ground outside and punched the complainant in the head, multiple times, at 3.30am.

During an appearance at Douglas Courthouse Corkill pleaded guilty to common assault with his advocate telling the court it was ‘not a sustained attack’.

Fining Corkill, and ordering him to pay prosecution costs of £50, Deputy High Bailiff Rachael Braidwood told him: "Behaving in such a manner is clearly unacceptable."

Noting there was a ‘trigger’ to the teen’s behaviour she added: "This is not the appropriate way to deal with it."
