Informal group of health and social care workers support referendum call
The Chief Minister's call for a referendum on the Assisted Dying Bill has received support from 'Manx Duty of Care' - an informal group of health and social care workers who oppose assisted suicide and euthanasia.
The group claims the majority of Manx medical staff don't support the Bill and resignations and recruitment problems, already a concern to the Health Minister, will be worse if the Bill becomes law.
During the clauses stage of the Bill, in the House of Keys this week, Chief Minister, Alfred Cannan, said the voices of the vulnerable needed to be heard.
He claimed the Bill would 'fundamentally alter the social contract', allowing government to authorise the killing of people.
'Duty of Care' says the Bill is undesirable, unnecessary and, at present, it seems unworkable.
