Students at QEII High School will have to start earlier from September

Headteacher writes to parents to inform them school day is changing

QEII High School has confirmed it’s changing the timings of its school day.

The headteacher of the Peel school has written to parents and carers today (27 June) to inform them of the changes.

From September students will start 10 minutes earlier at 8.45am – they’ll also finish earlier at 3.15pm.

The lunch break is also being shortened and will take place between 12.45pm and 1.35pm. 

More tills will be introduced to speed up payment queues at lunchtimes with the school adding that on most days all year groups are served within the first 20 minutes of the lunch period.

According to the school the changes will mean students have additional time for ‘enrichment clubs’ at the end of the day; they will run between 3.15pm and 4.15pm. 

Staff will also have more time for continued professional development work - something which Headteacher Charlotte Clarke says will promote a ‘culture of learning, collaboration, evidence informed practice and innovation’. 

The changes follow a consultation launched by the school earlier this year which Mrs Clarke says has been carefully considered.

No lesson/teaching time is affected by the change to the timings of the school day other than a five-minute reduction in tutor time.

According to the school Bus Vannin has 'carefully considered' each bus route and will share revised bus timetables in due course.
