Students aiming to convert wasted energy during Island cycle

Junior Achievement team will test 'Spinergy' this weekend

A student from Ballakermeen High School will attempt to cycle the length of the Isle of Man on Sunday (2 March) to test a new product which aims to convert wasted energy.

Joey Hills is part of a team called Dynamis which is taking part in the Junior Achievement Company Programme.

The ‘Spinergy’ device will be trialled on the route between the Point of Ayre and The Sound.

It attaches to a bicycle wheel frame and converts the wasted energy of the spinning wheel into electricity that charges an attached portable charger.

Joey – and his colleagues Charlotte Wilkinson and Zac Colligan – say they’re excited to see what it can do:

It's hoped Joey can complete the bike ride in under four hours.
