Clean up continues following severe winds

Storm Darragh over the weekend is said to have been one of the worst storms the Isle of Man has seen in recent history.

Severe gales and storm force winds saw more than 200 trees brought down, closing a number of roads around the Island.

Police say Patrick Road, St johns and Mill Road in Onchan remains closed.

Gusts of up to 96mph were recorded over the mountain.

Off-Island travel was ground to a halt on Saturday and many areas experienced power outages.

BUS

Due to the Storm some roads in Andreas are impassable for double-decker vehicles today (9 December).

The service 20a will only serve to Andreas roundabout, it will turn at this point and return to Ramsey via Regaby.

Manx Utilities

A number of homes were also affected by Storm Darragh over the weekend.

In a statement to Manx Radio, Manx Utilities says it's grateful to customers for their patience and for the offers of refreshments and food to keep the teams going into the early hours.

"Our Headquarters was manned with customer service staff, water teams deployed to assist the Department of Infrastructure with tree clearances and of course our power teams getting supplies back on in difficult conditions."
