Storm Darragh: Island prepares for severe gales and heavy rain

Amber and yellow warnings issued for Saturday

Civil Defence Isle of Man says it's been busy planning today for Storm Darragh with heavy rain, severe gales and storm force winds on the way.

Multi-agency teams have been involved in briefings from the Ronaldsway Met Office to ensure measures are in place for the weather due to affect the Island in the early hours of tomorrow and throughout the day (7 December).

An amber weather warning for severe gales and storm force winds will be in place from 4am until 11:59pm on Saturday, whilst heavy rain is expected from 3pm today until midday tomorrow.

People are being urged to do as much as they can today to secure their properties, with a warning that there is a risk of damage.

The Isle of Man Government has shared the following advice:

Sandbags are also available at amenity sites and at Civil Defence Headquarters, Tromode for anyone who needs them ahead of tonight's heavy rain.

Tonight and tomorrow's Steam Packet sailings to Liverpool have been cancelled.
