Foot passengers could be delayed getting on and off

The Steam Packet is warning of potential delays, or changes to scheduled sailings, due to issues at Heysham Port.

The number one berth is currently out of use meaning sailings are using berths two and three.

In Heysham, generally, each operator uses an allocated linkspan which means freight for each sailing is parked for each operator’s needs.

The Steam Packet says because it is currently using a different linkspan its freight is having to take a longer route to be loaded and unloaded.

Foot passengers will have to board and disembark via coaches – this is due to the two berths not having facilities for passengers.

According to the company there is no safe route by foot between the terminal and the vessel meaning passengers will be held until there is sufficient space on the vehicle decks for the coaches.

In a statement the company adds: "This may lead to delays disembarking for foot passengers but we work hard to try to minimise any disruption.

"We apologise for any inconvenience and thanks passengers for their understanding as we work through this situation."
