Steam Packet defends how it secures motorbikes on vessels

Claims of 'string' being used to tie up the machines

The Steam Packet's been defending the way it secures motorbikes on its vessels.

It's after a post on Facebook criticised it for using 'string' and leaving riders to 'untie and untangle' them.

A spokesperson says: "All motorbikes travelling on Isle of Man Steam Packet Company sailings are secured with lashings appropriate to the conditions and in accordance with our approved Cargo Securing Manual.

"The approved lashing method has been tried and tested over many years and we utilise bespoke racks manufactured and tested to comply with expected worse case loads to ensure maximum safety.

"This is, of course, a particularly busy time for the IOMSPC and we take extra care to ensure the many thousands of motorcycles are carefully and appropriately secured prior to every departure to try to ensure everyone has the best possible experience with the Steam Packet Company.’’
