Southern Pool board welcomes assurances over site's future

Follows 'positive' meeting with government

The board of the Southern Swimming Pool has welcomed what it describes as a 'positive meeting' with government.

Earlier this year the site was threatened with closure, before the local commissioners agreed to increase rates to plug a funding gap.

The board says it welcomes an assurance from the chief minister that there will be a replacement pool in the new Castle Rushen High School.

It says government confirmed it will continue to provide the annual subvention and access to minor capital works funding to the pool until the new site is ready.

Chairman, Laurence Vaughan-Williams says, with that certainty, he's confident the southern pool would be able to maintain its existing operation.
