Solution found to keep facility open
The education minister insists the recent announcement that the Southern Swimming Pool may not have to close is 'not a U-turn'.
That's despite the Department of Education, Sport and Culture previously recommending the facility be closed at the end of March due to financial constraints.
After a solution to the deficit was presented by Rushen MHK Juan Watterson, and agreed to by the southern commissioners, government said there would be a way to keep the facility open with its current subvention.
A report into the creation of regional sports hubs on the Island declared there was "no scenario" which could save the pool.
Julie Edge says the recent fallout over the move has been 'uncomfortable', and, whilst she hasn't apologised for the recommendation, did apologise for a staff letter being leaked.
The minister adds that the 'masterplan' for the new Castle Rushen High School will include a new pool.
