Services provided by Manx Care need to be specified, says chief exec

What is the cost of health and care on the Isle of Man?

There needs to be a commissioning process, looking at what services Manx Care should be providing, and what it shouldn't.

That's the view of the chief executive who says it is unclear what is actually in the Department of Health and Social Care's remit.

The budget and spending of Manx Care has been under scrutiny as the healthcare provider announced a series of service cuts to tackle a projected £16.8m overspend.

Teresa Cope told Sian Cowper they are facing increasing pressures year on year:

Later today, the healthcare provider will be a hot topic in the first Tynwald sitting back following the summer recess.

Health Minister Lawrie Hooper will be asked to make a statement on Manx Care's cuts in Tynwald.

Douglas Central MHK Chris Thomas is due to table a motion on Manx Care, and whether the board should have more political oversight.

And Arbory, Castletown and Malew MHK Tim Glover has tabled an urgent question asking Mr Hooper to make a statement on the cuts announced by the healthcare provider last week.
