Service to commemorate founder of RNLI

The Isle of Man will pay tribute to one of its most famous residents next week with a church service in Douglas.

The annual commemoration honours the memory of Sir William Hillary, the founder of the RNLI.

The event will be held on Sunday, January 6 at St George’s Church in Douglas starting at 3pm.

The RNLI’s Director of Operations Michael Vlasto OBE will lay a wreath on the tomb of Sir William Hillary in the churchyard after the service and there’ll also be a reception at the South Douglas Old Friends Association club on Finch Road.
