Septuagenarian forms walking group for mental health

Julie Bennett wants to create a safe place for people to connect

A septuagenarian on the Island is encouraging people suffering with mental health issues to join a peer support walking group to help them get through their challenges.

At 79, Julie Bennett - a member of the UK group Mental Health Matters, wants to get more people active on Douglas Promenade to talk about some of the challenges they face.

The Manx resident says she'd like to create a 'safe place' for people to connect without fear or judgement.

"People with mental health issues lack motivation and loneliness is a great problem for people" - Julie Bennett Mental Health Mates Douglas

Mrs Bennett says walking is just the first step in getting more active and introducing activity into your life:

The next walk is scheduled to take place 1 June at 11am from the Bee Gees statue on Douglas Promenade.
