School education team to also focus on safeguarding

PC's Lou, Jane and Jeanette are working closely with the education department

It's been a month since the introduction of a police school education team on the Isle of Man.

PC's Lou Kennaugh, Jane Butler and Jeanette Krejci have been working together with the education department and staff from schools to deliver sessions created for each year group.

PC Lou told Manx Radio the establishment of the team is to be able to show young people they can feel comfortable, safe and protected around officers.

She added their roles are dedicated to the schools and helping young people:

Based at Police Headquarters and supervised by Sgt Pam Robinson, they are solely responsible for delivering a package of educational sessions created specifically for each year group from reception to UCM if required.

Inspector Chas Maloney who created this team says, “Collectively there is over 50 years of Policing experience between the officers chosen for this role.

"We cannot underestimate the importance of early engagement with our young people to build relationships, built on trust and support.

"By offering a consistent presence in the schools we can monitor issues and deal with them at the lowest level with the most effective support in order to effectively safeguard our young people”.
