RTLC seeking 'expert advice' following withdrawal of Number 28 service

A meeting to discuss the application has been postponed to a later date

Bus Vannin’s decision to withdraw the 28 service has raised ‘some legal issues’.

The Road Transport Licensing Committee says it is seeking ‘expert advice’ regarding the Department of Infrastructure’s scrapping of the route to Cregneash.

It was due to meet and discuss the issue this month but it decided to postpone the meeting to consider an application to amend the service which was approved earlier this year.

The bus route allowed passengers to travel between Port Erin and the Sound, via Cregneash, on weekends and public holidays, between May and the start of the Autumn school term.

The RTLC has told Manx Radio it acknowledges the public interest in the DoI application to stop the route.

It said: “The RTLC would like to clarify that an earlier application to amend Service 28 was approved earlier this year permitting the service to operate as planned this summer.

"Bus Vannin’s application has raised some legal issues that the RTLC feels necessary to seek expert advice on before making a decision.

"As a result the committee has postponed this month’s meeting to consider the application and allow sufficient time to review this advice.

“The RTLC apologises for the ongoing delay and assures all interested parties that both the legal advice and other representations will be fully considered in due course.”

The DoI has declined to comment at this time.
