Temporary fencing in place for rally today
While the Department of Infrastructure has been carrying out planned maintenance work, there was a rock fall at Lhergy Frissell, between Ramsey Hairpin and Ballure Waterworks.
Loose stone and vegetation has fallen onto the road surface, and after an initial assessment other loose material was removed and a large unstable tree was felled.
Specialist geotechnical engineers have determined there is a danger that more rock will fall, and so further slate will be removed to manage the risk and ensure that there are no issues for the upcoming TT meeting.
There was a significant rock fall in this area in 1987 which blocked the highway and took a considerable time to clear.
To allow the Manx Classic Rally Lhergy Frissell Hill Climb to take place today, the DOI has temporarily fitted armoured fencing.
This is only a short term measure that can be used in controlled circumstances.
