New link is 'biggest highway project in decades'
Island ferry passengers will be able to enjoy improved road links in the north of England from next month.
Lancashire County Council have announced The Bay Gateway project, which links Heysham directly to the M6, will open to all traffic from 31 October.
The 3 mile stretch of road is said to be Lancashire's biggest highway project in decades.
Officials hope it will boost the local economy through Heysham's trade links with Ireland, the Isle of Man and offshore gas fields.
