Excess stone removed from boat park
More than 550 tonnes of gravel have been scooped out of the river at Laxey boat park, in a major dredging exercise by the infrastructure department.
The gravel is removed from the inner harbour every two years, to prevent damage to the walls and wier.
A large pile of the dredged gravel has been deposited on Laxey beach through a hatch on the pier. But the DoI says it will soon mingle with the beach stone, when it is washed across the bay by the tides.
