Review of parking permits underway, says minister

Several areas of the system expected to be analysed

The infrastructure minister has confirmed a review into the Island's parking permits is now underway.

Dr Michelle Haywood says the review will 'consider the purpose of the system and the impact on residents, businesses and visitors.'

In a written response to a Tynwald question from Douglas North MHK John Wannenburgh, she states one of the aspects of the review will look at 'fairness'.

This, the minister claims, will assess whether the system equitably serves all residents and accounts for different needs across permit zones whilst considering other stakeholders needs and wishes.

Another area to be analysed is the efficiency of the policy in terms of 'evaluating administrative processes, enforcing effectiveness, and ease of use for residents.'

Furthermore, the review is expected to be informed by a number of factors including comparative analysis with similar systems in the UK; resident and stakeholder feedback as well as a public engagement exercise.

Dr Haywood adds any public engagement on proposed changes to permit operations is anticipated to start in the fourth quarter of the financial year.
