David Craine retires from bench after two decades of service
An outgoing magistrate says he will miss the 'comradery' he's experienced with his fellow magistrates as he retires after 20 years.
David Craine took up the voluntary position on 29 October 2004 and oversaw his last sitting on Thursday (28 November).
Addressing those gathered at Douglas Courthouse Mr Caine said it was 'hard to believe' he'd been on the bench for two decades.
Over his career he served as chair of the Juvenile Bench and as both chair and vice-chair of the Isle of Man Magistrates’ Association.
He told the court he hoped helping juveniles would be his legacy from the role.
Thanking Mr Craine for his work on behalf of His Majesty’s Attorney General prosecutor Hazel Carroon said he'd 'always been extremely gracious'.
On behalf of the Manx bar advocate Jim Travers said the fullness of the jury bench and public gallery was 'a testament to the esteem in which you are held'.
He thanked Mr Craine for his 'compassion, wise judgement and good humour'.
Concluding his speech Mr Craine said: "I will miss you all as I sail off to that new destination that is the supplemental list."
