'Reassuring' that sports clubs have access to lifesaving equipment says FA President

Manx charity thanked for providing defibrillators across Island

A Manx charity has been thanked for continuing to provide sports clubs – and other organisations on the Island – with lifesaving defibrillators.

The president of the Isle of Man Football Association says it’s ‘reassuring’ that the equipment is available to anyone who needs it.

Last week a Colby AFC player suffered a cardiac arrest during a training session.

Thanks to the efforts of his teammates, who performed CPR and used the defibrillator, he is now recovering in hospital.

Tony Mepham, who is also Manx Radio's Football Correspondent, says Craig’s Heartstrong Foundation – which provided the machine – is an ‘incredible charity’ which saves lives:

Craig’s Heartstrong Foundation was set up by the Lunt family in memory of their 25-year-old son who died in April 2005 from an undiagnosed heart defect.

It works to raise money to fund heart screening for men and women, aged between 14 and 35 on the Isle of Man, in order to help prevent Sudden Death Syndrome.

The charity also provides lifesaving defibrillators to sports clubs, schools and offices across the Island as well as funding public access machines Island wide.
