Hooper believes local authority roles are 'rewarding' but take 'time and energy'
A Ramsey MHK says being a commissioner gives people a 'better understanding' of Manx politics.
Local authority elections will be held across the Island on 24 April.
They're run every four years and provide members of the public with an opportunity to join a local authority district or ward.
Lawrie Hooper, who was a commissioner for Ramsey between 2012 and 2016, is 'strongly' recommending people go down this avenue before attempting to become a Member of the House of Keys.
The next General Election will take place in September 2026.
Mr Hooper is also urging those considering the role to speak to current and past board members.
