The Public Health Directorate has issued new advice to holidaymakers heading for France this summer.
The country has just declared it has lost its 'rabies-free' status after confirming a case in a dog there.
The DHSS says there is now a risk of contracting the disease from dog bites in Gers, Seinne-et-Marne and Calvados.
Anybody sustaining a dog bite in France should seek urgent medical attention before symptoms present. If you’ve visited France recently and have concerns, you can contact Public Health on 642688.
