Public support for Tynwald to be recalled following global investigation

Follows BBC World Service report into alleged investment scam

Police on the Isle of Man say they can’t comment on an alleged global fraud and money laundering investigation because it’s ‘ongoing’.

It follows BBC World Service reports today (23 August) about an investment scam, allegedly carried out from the Island, which reportedly conned victims in China out of millions of dollars.

The BBC claims it happened between January 2022 and January 2023.

On Manx Radio’s Mannin Line today these callers said they think Tynwald should be recalled immediately:

Manx Radio has invited the Isle of Man Government to respond - you can find the statement, issued at 3.06pm, HERE.

In April this year the Isle of Man Constabulary confirmed it had executed a number of warrants at business premises on Victoria Road and Bucks Road in Douglas in relation to King Gaming Ltd.

Seven people were arrested and released on bail; a number of people on the premises of Victoria Road were subject to further immigration interviews including the Isle of Man Immigration Service.

The constabulary said at the time: "This activity is part of a wider fraud and money laundering investigation being led by the IOM Constabulary’s Proactive International Money Laundering and Investigation Team in relation to King Gaming Ltd IOM.

"Enquiries are being conducted in close liaison with partners within the Islands AML/CFT regulatory and intelligence network to fully investigate these matters."

A further three people were arrested in May.

The Isle of Man Gambling Supervision Commission also suspended the licenses of King Gaming Ltd and Dalmine Ltd due to the criminal investigation.

Today the constabulary told Manx Radio: "Further to the BBC article the investigation remains ongoing and due to this we will be unable to comment at this time."
