Increase down to rising maintenance costs
Rents for those in public sector homes on the Isle of Man will go up by 7.5 percent from April.
It's after a consultation between the Department of Infrastructure and the Island's 15 local housing authorities.
In real terms those in a one-bedroom flat will pay £5.18 more a week, rent for a two-bed property will go up by £7.63, a three-bed rises by £8.74 and a four-bed house will go up by £10.76 a week.
People whose rent is paid by the government, as part of their income-assessed social security benefits, will automatically have their benefits reassessed to take these new costs into account.
The increase has been attributed to rising costs for routine maintenance, and planned improvement projects, and to make sure funding is available for the ongoing delivery of repairs.
Those with concerns can contact their housing provider or the Social Security Division within Treasury.
The new prices come into force from Monday, 1 April 2024.
