Christian says she intervened in planned cuts because of 'huge political and public impact'
People on the Isle of Man have to be ‘really realistic’ about what healthcare services can be provided within the budget allocated to Manx Care.
That’s the view of the health and social care minister who has apologised for the ‘miscommunication’ surrounding disruption to some patients’ elective care.
Claire Christian has told Manx Radio she stepped in to alter the changes Manx Care was planning to make despite the health body supposedly being ‘arm’s length’ to government.
Following an £800,000 cash injection from Treasury planned on-Island procedures and appointments which had been, or were at risk of being, cancelled will be reinstated.
However, UK hospitals have still been asked to stop off-Island procedures and appointments which are considered non-urgent.
