Property management company fined £17,600

Block of flats in Douglas did not have working fire alarm system

A property management company has been fined £17,600 for breaching fire regulations at a block of flats in Douglas.

The court heard that in 2023 fire safety officers were made aware that the property didn't have a working fire alarm system among other regulatory contraventions.

Despite attempts by the Isle of Man Fire and Rescue Service to work with the management company, Marlborough Court Limited, to rectify the situation - and make the property safe - none of the required work was carried out.

Prohibition notices were issued and the matter was brought before the Isle of Man Courts of Justice.

Government says they are only issued when risk to life is apparent and advise individuals that it is not safe to reside in the premises until the situation is resolved.

In this case one resident did not adhere to the conditions of the prohibition notice and pled guilty to the offence.

They too were fined and handed a 12-month conditional discharge for the offence.
