Probation for L plate teen who fled scene after crash

17-year-old acted out of 'sheer panic'

A teenager who fled the scene after crashing into a wall has been put under the supervision of the probation service.

Lisa Callow, of no fixed address, failed to stop at or report the incident at Glen Mooar on 22 July last year; she was on L plates at the time.

At Douglas Courthouse she admitted both offences with the court hearing she had lost control on a left-hand bend causing significant damage to a wall and to the car.

Callow then removed the debris from the road and left the scene with the prosecutor adding: "She must have acted out of sheer panic."

Her advocate told the court she had made ‘poor decisions’ but said she’d been ‘obviously cast adrift’ by the adults she was with adding: "She did make a stupid decision as an immature 17-year-old."

Placing Callow under a six-month probation order, and adding seven penalty points to her provisional licence, Magistrates told her: "We do wish you well. We understand you’ve had a lot of problems in your life. Hopefully you’ll get through them."
