Princess Anne to visit Peel today

Cathedral Isle of Man and House of Manannan visits on itinerary

Her Royal Highness the Princess Royal will visit the Isle of Man today (17 October).

Princess Anne will attend a Thanksgiving Service at Cathedral Isle of Man this morning at 11.35am to celebrate a key milestone in the restoration and reordering of the cathedral.

As patron of The Cathedral Church of Saint German Peel Development Appeal Her Royal Highness will unveil an engraved floor stone commemorating the £2 million reordering of the cathedral. 

Around 350 invited guests will attend the service and The Princess Royal will meet some of the appeal donors, project architects and engineers who have supported and worked on the restoration.

Afterwards, at 1.15pm, Her Royal Highness will travel to the House of Manannan to view the ‘All at Sea’ exhibition which commemorates the Island’s maritime heritage and the 200th anniversary of the RNLI.

During her time on Island Princess Anne will meet representatives from the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture, from the fishing and farming industries, RNLI, and local businesses and community organisations.

There are traffic restrictions in place around East Quay until around 3.15pm.

Lieutenant Governor Sir John Lorimer says: "It will be terrific to welcome Her Royal Highness the Princess Royal back to the Island on Thursday. 

"She was last here in July 2021 for Tynwald Day. 

"This visit will allow us to highlight the Island’s community spirit, heritage and culture. 

"I am delighted that a good number of groups will have the opportunity to share with Her Royal Highness their experience, skills and passion for what they do."

Members of the public are welcome to gather at each location to see Her Royal Highness. 

Chief Minister Alfred Cannan added: "I know the Manx community will give Her Royal Highness another warm welcome with many people looking forward to a special day to mark the reordering of the cathedral and the bicentenary of the RNLI."
