Positive response to efforts to recruit more police officers, says constabulary

Starting salaries for junior officers increased by 16% last year

More people have been showing interest in applying to become a police officer compared to last year.

That’s from the Isle of Man Constabulary which has been holding a series of drop-in sessions as part of a recruitment drive.

It was announced in July last year the starting wage for junior officers here was to increase by more than 12 percent; in September that was increased by a further 4.75 percent by the UK Government.

Karl Breadner is the Inspector for Police Development and says he’s been encouraged by the number of people who have sought further information.

He spoke to Darren Timson:

Applications for police, special and transferee constable roles will close on 21 March.
