It's hoping to go ahead with the plan in Spring
After its successful launch in Douglas, Port Erin Commissioners is hoping to bring a 'foodies' market to the south of the Island.
The local authority is inviting businesses to a meeting tonight at St Catherine's Church Hall to discuss the plan ahead of a potential Spring opening.
It was started to support 'grass roots' and 'small scale' producers across the Island with a place for them to sell and grow their businesses.
Chair Godfrey Egee says he hopes the market will support the board's plan for a public square:
A spokesperson for the Manx Food Market Traders Association says: “We created our first foodies market, when producers told us their biggest challenge was finding a regular and cost-effective way of reaching potential customers to help them build a steady demand and grow their businesses.
"We now have over 30 regular traders offering produce that ranges from fresh meat and seafood, seasonal veg, savoury and sweet bakes to street food dishes from around the world. Each and everyone of them are now growing and investing in their business, based on the response of the public who turn out in all-weather so they can discover and support a broad range of local food in a simple one stop shop.”
