New Legislative Council members take up roles in government departments

The new Tynwald members take on roles in Treasury, Home Affairs and Health

The Isle of Man Government has confirmed the appointment of three new Members of the Legislative Council to new departmental roles.

MLCs Gary Clueit, Kirstie Morphet, and Peter Reid were sworn in on Tuesday 11 March, alongside re-elected member Rob Mercer MLC.

Each was selected by the House of Keys and will serve a five-year term.

Mr Clueit, a businessman and lay-member of the Housing and Communities Board, has been appointed to the Treasury, replacing Bill Henderson who lost his seat.

Mrs Morphet, a social worker with more than 20 years' experience, has joined the Department of Home Affairs, replacing Mr Mercer, who has left amicably.

Mr Reid has been appointed to the Department of Health and Social Care, where he will work with Ministers Jane Poole-Wilson and David Ashford.

He is also set to be recommended for the position of Vice-Chair of the Manx Utilities Authority in April 2025, after Peter Greenhill retired his political seat.

Meanwhile, MLC Tanya August-Phillips, has stepped down from her role within the DHSC, has been appointed to the Department of Enterprise, with a focus on Finance Isle of Man, alongside her work in the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture.
