Police deal with 'contained incident' in Murrays Road

It's understood armed officers are on the scene

UPDATE: The road is now open, and police have confirmed the incident was a 'domestic dispute'.

That statement in full: "At 10.50am today Police responded to a report of a domestic dispute at an address in Murrays Road, Douglas.

"The available information was assessed and it was determined that it was necessary to deploy armed response officers, supported by unarmed officers and Police negotiators to the scene.

"In order to negate any risk to those involved, the officers and with consideration of the wider public, closed the road temporarily and a nearby school was informed of the situation.

"The matter was resolved by 3:10pm with the arrest of a male, and the road was re-opened.

"It is regrettable that this incident caused some minor degree of impact to the community but this was in order to ensure they were not placed at risk and to effectively apprehend a suspect."

The Isle of Man Constabulary has issued a warning for people to stay away from Murrays Road in Douglas.

The road is closed as officers deal with an ongoing 'contained incident' in the area.

Manx Radio understands armed police are on the scene.

Meanwhile, parents with children at Scoill yn Jubilee Primary School have been informed that children at the Junior School have been 'relocated' to the Infant School.

Manx Radio has seen a message sent from Executive Headteacher Adrian Shorthouse which states: "Due to the ongoing police incident in the area of Murrays Road, the Junior school children have been relocated to the Infant School.

"This is to ensure that there is clear access to be able to collect children at the normal collection time.

"All children are safe and will remain at the infants until the usual collection time. If parents / carers have children at the infant and the junior site, they can collect both at the usual time of 3.15pm. Junior children can be collected from the infant site from 3.30pm."
