Planning committee says development will be 'a real asset' to the town
Plans to convert the former Ramsey Bakery building in Ramsey have been approved.
The site on Station Road - in the heart of the town - is to be used as industrial, storage, and office space.
Applicant Andy Duncan said he wanted to create something which would benefit local businesses in the town, giving them space to operate.
Mr Duncan said the site - an automated plant - wasn’t advertised as a bakery for a new owner.
He told the planning committee “for someone to take on our scale of operation was never going to happen”.
As part of the proposals 4,000 sq ft of the existing building will be demolished to create extra parking provision.
Committee member Peter Young said it would be “a real asset to Ramsey”.
Planning Committee Chair Rob Callister applauded the applicant for bringing the plans forward so soon following closure, saying “too often buildings are left empty for too long.”
The bakery, which had operated for fifty years, closed down in 2022.
The plans were approved unanimously, as per the case officer's recommendation.
