Plans for new Co-op and tourist apartments in Port Erin

Proposed site plan

Current shop too small to handle demand

We could see a new Co-op constructed in Port Erin if new plans are approved.

An application has been submitted which would see the food retail store constructed, alongside six new tourist apartments.

JM Project Management says the plans are supported by the local commissioners as the existing shop is too small to handle demand.

Associated car parking, a service yard and bin storage is also accounted for in the plans.

If approved, the new development would replace the Flower Pot and funeral directors.

You can find the plans here.

Back in August, a Port Erin Commissioner said she will always object to planning applications for new tourist accommodation in the town, saying "homes need to be lived in".

Hannah Mackenzie said she would like to see young families, and professionals, prioritised for empty properties to help 'rebuild' communities instead.

However, tourist accommodation business Island Escapes told us tourism should be seen as an 'opportunity' and not a 'threat'.

Managing Director John Keggin said he doesn't believe a blanket rule is necessary but acknowledges empty and vacant properties should be a focus for government.
