Manx Development Corporation aiming to lodge application in first half of 2025
It's expected that a planning application for a new multi-storey car park on the Parade Street site in Douglas will be submitted in the first half of next year.
The Manx Development Corporation says the plans, in collaboration with its shareholder - the Isle of Man Treasury - are advancing.
The car park proposal falls under the wider regeneration plans for Lower Douglas, and follows the 2014 Tynwald approved masterplan for the area.
The current car park, adjacent to the swing bridge and Steam Packet buildings, is managed by the Department of Infrastructure and was used in recent years as a border control point during the Covid pandemic.
MDC's Managing Director, Dane Harrop, says: ‘Following a pause of works to reassess the final scope, the Manx Development Corporation have now re-engaged its design team with a view to lodging a planning application for the Parade Street Car Park site in the first half of 2025.’
‘To date the project has included extensive stakeholder consultation with those associated with adjacent sites, the highways department and those running the port to ensure that what is being proposed is considered and coordinated. This engagement will continue as the design progresses into the next phase.’
‘Often initial investment in enabling infrastructure is required to facilitate wider redevelopment of an urban area, and it is envisaged that the provision of this multi-storey car park will be a decisive move to reinvigorate the surrounding area by helping to enable regeneration in the City.’
MDC says further details of the proposals will be shared at 'the appropriate time'.
