Peel Commissioners to take part in 'No Mow May' across the town

Board member Madeline Kelly hopes the scheme will bring more flowers year on year

Peel Commissioners will be carrying out 'controlled mowing' in support of the 'No Mow May' scheme by the Manx Wildlife Trust.

The local authority will be leaving areas of grass around the town to self-seeded wildflowers and encourage lizards, birds and insects to make habitats.

Commissioner Madeline Kelly says in some areas, the grass is stripped away and is re-sown with plants which are not native to the Island, removing what may already be growing.

The scheme will be started in Spring this year and continued through to the end of Summer.

The scheme will be carried out on Oak Road, Peveril Road and daisy fields by the headlands which Ms Kelly hopes will bring more flowers year on year.
