Housing valuations are being carried out which authority says will inform decision

Peel Commissioners met last night to discuss a number of issues affecting the town including the sewage treatment works appeal and an update was provided on Reayrt Aalin.

On the agenda was the appeal notice for the sewage treatment works scheduled to be built in Peel.

The clerk confirmed that a notice had been sent yesterday requesting the commissioners' position and a written statement.

Peel Commissioners has previously supported the application from Manx Utilities and the need for a sewage plant in the town, which it says has been needed for over 20 years.

The appeal has come from a local landowner who says they have approval for 21 houses on a site adjacent to where the proposed treatment works are.

The board agreed unanimously to write to planning in support of the MU’s application.

Also on the agenda was an update about the Reayrt Aalin housing estate.

Previously the commissioners had agreed to demolish the houses and rebuild them after it was discovered that substandard building materials had been used by the developer.

Chair of the Property and Asset Management Committee Alan Jones said valuations on the properties have started.

He added that once these are completed, the board will know whether residents will need to be moved out of their homes or if they can stay whilst work is carried out.

The commissioners also discussed preparations for a number of town events.

Voirrey Heaton, who’s part of the Events and Commercial Innovation committee said they had been looking at purchasing new Christmas lights and these will come to the board soon for discussion.

She also confirmed they have 30 streets signed up for Yn Creck Mooar this weekend, which is the town's big sale, where residents can sell items they don’t need any more from their homes.

A request was also in sent by the organisers of the tractor run asking if they can reroute the Peel section after last year’s bad weather.

During the last run they went along the prom past the Marine Parade, but due to high winds the waves were topping the road and hitting the tractors.

Instead, they’ve asked to go along East Quay and along Crown Street which will also make it easier for vehicles wanting to join the parade.

Peel Commissioners will next meet on 19 September.
