Decisions to be declared directly with NHS Organ Donor Register
The option for Manx residents to opt-in for organ donation via their driving licence application will be removed next week.
From 1 February, people will have to declare their decision directly to the NHS Organ Donor Register, instead.
It's as the Island moves towards an 'opt-out' system, meaning people would need to declare whether they wish to keep their organs once they've passed away.
The Human Tissue and Organ Donation Bill received Royal Assent to become an Act in July last year.
Whilst a commencement date is yet to be announced, government says work is underway to implement the new law during the current administration.
The Isle of Man is working with NHS Blood and Transplant to reconcile up to 66,000 driving licence records with the central NHS Organ Donor Register.
Government says the transfer of data is due to take place in February once the new driving licence application form is in use.
