Marown Memorial Playing Fields Committee says it can't afford to run it

The only public toilet in Marown has been closed due to the lack of financial support.

Marown Memorial Playing Fields Committee says it has been asked by the commissioners to take on the responsibility of running - but claims it can't afford to do so.

In a statement on Facebook, the organisation says it pays for the electricity and water but it's 'vital' the toilet at the Hall Caine Pavillion is kept in the parish and would be a 'great loss' if it closed.

It added that it hasn't received funds from the commissioners to help maintain and upgrade its recreational facilities for several years, despite 'many requests'.

The toilet was built and funded three years ago by the commissioners and has been out of action for three months due to a faulty electronic timer door, however the toilet inside still works.

The committee also says it is used by the 'numerous' other members of the community, along with the sports clubs that use the playing fields.

Marown Commissioners and the playing fields committee have been contacted for further comment.
